What Think Ye of Christ?

Near the end of His ministry, Jesus asked the Pharisees, “What think ye of Christ? whose son is he?” (Matthew 22:42).

Today, Jesus asks each of us a related question, “How do you personally relate to Christ?” There is more to His question: “Do you see Him as the heavenly accountant who registers your every debt, sends statements, and demands payment? Do you see Him as the coy ‘friend’ who is good hearted but always just out of reach? Do you see Him as the God who is impossible to please?

“Or do you see Him as the faithful friend who drops perfect gifts into every day, waits lovingly by us at night, and meets us weekly at the throne of grace to renew His commitment to us?”

I suppose the reason I keep a record of my daily experiences of the divine is two-fold. 1. I want to notice and appreciate every hint of goodness He sends into my life. 2. I want to guide my life by His direction.

I find that when I am attentive, I see His goodness powerfully and often. Several times every day, I notice miracles—a new insight (or revelation of truth), a feeling of profound joy (His presence and friendship), calming the storms inside me, and casting out the evil spirits fear, doubt, and resentment. I record my sightings every day.

When I look for Him, I can see miracles all around me! When I pay attention to His miracles, I discover that they are constant—and they are transformative.

Each of us is called to prophesy of Christ (2 Nephi 25:26). We can tell of His coming into our lives. We can speak of the miracles we see all around us. We can testify that He is healing and redeeming the world one increment at a time.

When did you see Jesus today? When did you see Him blessing those who are burdened, healing those who are diseased, and rescuing those who have fallen into sin? When did you see Him sparking in the soul of a child or radiating glory in nature? When did you feel Him whispering love, joy, and peace in your soul?

He is there. Did we notice? Did we make a record “that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins” (2 Nephi 25:26)? We are His witnesses.

At this Christmas season, may we not merely testify that He came to Bethlehem many years ago. Let us testify that He comes every day to each of our lives. Let us testify that we have seen Him, and felt Him, and witnessed His goodness and His miracles. Let us testify that His ministry continues today in each of our lives.

Let us testify with them of olden times. “The Redeemer has come! I have seen Him! I have witnessed His miracles. I rejoice in Him!”
